Baseball Glove Repair
|
Wilson A2000 This glove came to me with a simple break in the lacing in the finger section nearest the web. The lace broke because the glove was very dry and the laces were becoming brittle. And so, with a little bit of simple baseball glove repair and a little conditioner, I had the glove repaired in about 15 minutes and then spent just a little more time rubbing in some conditioner. Normally, with a glove like this, I would replace all of the finger and web lacing because the laces were pretty dry and were becoming weak...again, from neglect. However, this glove broke on the night of a game with double headers scheduled for the following two days. So, the glove needed fixed that night. Fortunately, this was one of the simplest repairs to a glove that you'll ever come across. And yet, it is one of the most common breaks in gloves and people spend a lot of money and lose the baseball glove for days or a week sending it away to get repaired. Anyway, I spent more time rubbing some conditioner on the glove than I did repairing the lace. This glove was from a northeastern state where the spring weather of rain, snow, mud and sun is pretty rough on baseball glove leather. Normally, I would have put two to three coats of conditioner on a glove like this. It would have looked really good then. But, as I mentioned above, the glove was needed in basically 18 hours from the time it broke and I didn't want the glove feeling sticky or have excess conditioner on it the next day. In any case, a little conditioner on a glove like this is great for it even though it really does need another coat or two. But, as you can see in the pictures below, the glove doesn't look too bad, the leather feels good and the broken lace has been repaired...all in about 30 minutes. I already had leather and conditioner...didn't have to buy a thing. |
